Keyboard not working after upgrading XP Pro

I have upgraded to XP Pro, and my keyboard won't work. So
I went out & bought new XP compatible one. Still will not
work. It is a basic one, that uses the standard driver.
It has this message. Please help!

"Windows cannot start this hardware device, because it 's
configration in the rgistry is incomplete or damaged.
Code 19"
