View Full Version : Icons in IE6 Favorites keep dissappearing

Hi...
Certain websites put their own little icon beside their
name in my favorites list. (ex. for eBay, it shows the
eBay logo, etc.) Other, less popular sites just use the
default blue "e", as in the IE logo. My problem is that
the ones with their own logos don't stay that way.
Whenever I add a website with a "special" icon, it
displays that one for only a week or so, then it changes
it to the IE icon. The only thing I can do to get back
that icon is delete all those sites from my list and add
them in again...and I get their icon back for a short
while. (What a pain!) I know this sounds like a piddly
little thing, but I really liked having those fancy icons
in my favorites list. It makes it easier to find the
site I am looking for...especially as my list grows!
I am running WinXP Home, IE6, with SP1 installed. I
can't remember when this started happening.
Can anyone tell my how to get my "fancy" icons back and
keep them that way? Please?
Thank you, Steph

yes, these favorites icons will disappear when you clear your browser cache
(temporary internet files). not sure if there is any way to prevent this,
other than not clearing your cache.

Before emptying your Temporary Internet Files, grab the little favicons for
the various sites and move them to a folder on your hard drive. Internet
Options> Temporary Internet Files> Settings> View Files will work for that
step. May want to rename these so that you can tell which icon is for what
site.
Next find the internet shortcut for the website and select Properties (they
will be in Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Favorites). Use the
Change Icon button and subsequent screens to select the corresponding icon.

Yes their is.
Download FavOrg. It works great!! Keeps your icons on the links bar and in
the favorites panel.
PC Magazine published this handy gem.
My version is 1.2 and it works very well.
