View Full Version : Removing ClearSearch

I have had no luck removing the above menace. I have Spybot and Spy Hunter installed, which apparently have removed all the adware except ClearSearch. I have learned that you cannot simply delete the folder from the file manager, nor can you remove the
CSIE.DLL file within that folder. A persistent bugger, I cannot figure out how to deregister its DLL's (per instructions in a "securemost.com" article) to remove it from running at startup. I am wondering what happens if I simply delete the ClearSearch f
older from the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\...etc. Will this screw my computer up completely and/or will there be other locations in the registry I should go after this badboy? I am mostly a novice at the regedit thing, so be gentle please.
Thanx in advance for any help.

I think this is another name for the one usually called Cool Web Search.
Anyway go to
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html
to read about that and then download extract from the zip and run the
CWShredder tool -

Hi,

To unregister a DLL, use the Regsvr32 command with '/u' parameter. =
Example, open a Command Prompt window and type:

Regsvr32 /u <fullpath:\filename.dll>

Unregistering the DLL removes it's references from the registry. =
Depending upon how the DLL is programmed, the number of registry entries =
vary. After unregistering the DLL, delete it from the system.

Ramesh: Thank you for the tip but I am having difficulty getting the command right. I either get "The syntax of the command is incorrect" message or "LoadLibrary("Program") failed - The specified module could not be found." So o know I am typing somethi
ng wrong.

I know the program is in a folder called ClearSearch and it is in the program files of windows on the Cdrive. And I know that wihtin the folder is a file called CSIE.DLL. If I right click on the folder and then click on properties it says the location is
: C:\Program Files\ClearSearch.

Now my questions are these: When I open a C prompt, can I type the Regsvr32 command at the C prompt or do I need to type something ahead of Regsvr32 etc? Also, do I need the brackets in the Command? One article related to removing clearsearch said this:
1) open the C prompt; 2) enter the command: cd "%WinDir%\System" followed by regsrv32 /u "\Program Files\ClearSearch\IE_ClrSch.DLL"

My problem is that I never know when to include the quotation marks, percent signs, bracket etc.

Final question, what do you think about me removing any folders relating to adware from the HKEY areas after opening the regedit from Start Run? I notice there are lots of items in that HKEY area that I have removed such as casino things and other adware
I have removed?

thanks for your help?
