View Full Version : Can't "Save Picture As..." in IE anymore...?!?

For some reason, my XP doesn't allow me to "Save Picture As..." when I
right-click in IE as anything but a BMP. I don't understand why I can't save
a .GIF as a .GIF, or a .JPG file as a .JPG! What is the problem here? XP
doesn't even give me the "Save/Print/etc" flyover icons on the graphics like
IE 6.0 gives my Win2k computers. How do you work around this???

This is normally as a result of a full temporary internet cache.
Tools/internet options/delete files.

My cache is set to 140MB, and the computer is only 2 weeks old -- I
definitely haven't filled it up. I just emptied it again after downloading
every possible XP update (and the latest IE 6 SP1), and still have the same
result. Can only save a .GIF as a .BMP and likewise for a .JPG background.
:-(

I just noticed that on some sites (www.microsoft.com) I DO have the option
to save GIFs as .GIFs, but on other sites (info.ct-dscp.com) I can only save
GIFs and JPGs as .BMP...
???

I wonder if the extra info from here :-
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810978
may be relevant ....

It's now looking like the problem is related to the site I'm trying to save
from (http://info.ct-dscp.com/). I can save properly on other sites, but not
this one. I did check all the steps in the referenced KB article below, and
nothing appears to be amiss...
I wonder what about a website/webpage would prevent you saving an image
(when the right-click button is not disabled with javascript)?

I visited info.ct-dscp.com and on both images (background and banner) got
the same results you did, .BMP file choice only. Very odd and no explanation
for you. However, I was able to save it successfully as a GIF file by using
quote marks: "filename.gif"
