I just install a 360k 5 1/4 floppy drive as the B drive
with my 3 1/2 floppy as the master(A drive) and winxp
recogizes the drive. But when I try to access the drive
with a disk inserted, I get a I/O error message. Is there
a setting or something in WinXP that I have to change or
add???

Any help would be greatly helpful.

The BIOS needs to be set for the floppy format. Also, I
seem to remember that XP does not fully support anything
less than 1.44 MB floppy drives (It won't format 720 KB
without using the command line). There may be third party
software that will allow the old floppy to be read, but I
don't know whether you can write to the 5-1/4" drive.
If you just want to get the data off of old disks, you might
be advise to find someone with an older computer with a
5-1/4 inch drive, copy the files to that computer and either
burn them to a CD or network the computer and transfer the
files.

Assuming thatsince it is a n old 360K not a 1.2Mb that the markings
for Master Slave etc will be 1st=O,2nd=1, 3rd=2, 4th=3
read master for 1st and slave for 2nd
As you have it as a slave choose 1 or did you know that one!!!.
Also some of them had another link on a sub board from the data cable
does your have that and try swapping its position.
