When I reboot my windows Xp, the scanner does not
get "found" properly and the icon in the system tray
has an x thru it. The scanner is a Visioneer 8700 USB.
Is it possible to change the order of the way programs
try to start so that I can have the scanner start last?

Try leaving the scanner powered-up at all times, even when the PC is shut down.

I think Bootvis.exe allows you to set boot order.

The scanner is powered all the time. About a year ago
I think I found something on the Microsoft website that
cured this problem. However, much has changed in the
computer since then, so the problem is back.

Well, that helped! I didn't read the instructions, but clicked
on optimize bootup. Now the scanner has displayed in the
system tray twice in a row without the red x thru it. I hope
that continues. I guess I can leave Bootvis on my computer
in case I need it again?
Thanks,
Dick
