View Full Version : Taskbar icons missing

Suddenly I'm unable to see the program icons on the
taskbar when the programs are minimized.
I can still access them from ALT-TAB or Task Manager.
I've tried playing around with all of the taskbar
properties, selecting and de-selecting different
toolbars, and even tried different recovery techniques
with out any results.
None of the FAQs or help nets have this exact problem and
all of the solutions for other "like" problems are not
helping.
I don't have a record of when they disappeared, so I
can't attribute it to any software load or update?
I am running an alternate language bar, but the icons
were there for months with that installed, however I've
even tried removing the language bar - without results.

Hi,
There was a bit of a bug going around a while ago that caused this =
problem. Go to Add & Remove in the Control Panel and uninstall Friend =
greetings and Winsrv reg if they exist.

I have a few programs installed that have a program setting for showing the
program button on the taskbar or not. They have a corresponding icon in the
notification area by the clock that can be used to call the program back
instead.
However, these are specific exceptions. Windows does not do this by default.
Those taskbar buttons should be showing. Have you checked this document yet?

No taskbar buttons for minimized programs was one of the very consistent
symptoms reported for this item.
If that doesn't sound familiar, all I can suggest is run the system as
cleanly as possible. No startup programs. Be very aware of all programs that
you do run. Make an effort to link up a specific program with the symptoms
you're seeing. You could even try Safe Mode or a new user account to see if
the same behavior goes away in those environments.
