Hello Group

HELP!! PCI MODEM PROBLEMS

I have Win98 running on my machine and have installed XP Pro in a separate
Partition and can boot from either - hopefully to ditch 98 once XP is up and
running okay. As yet I have installed no other software, and it was a clean
instal into an empty partion, not an upgrade.

I have a Mororola SM56 PCI modem that is functioning okay under Win98 but
will not function under XP.

XP found the card, and I had obtained an 2000/XP driver from the Motorola
site, which it eventually found and installed form the CD I had copied it
to. The modem shows up in Devices, enabled okay, and under the Diagnostics
Tab responds - XP telling me it is working okay and assigned to Com 3
However....

When I set up a Dial Up connection and try to get on line from IE it teels
me the modem 'may be in use, turned off, or not installed correctly.

Not sure if this helps but Com3 does not appear in devices (although this is
also the case in my other 'emergency' PC (Win98) which has a PCI modem, and
that works okay.

I've tried re-installing the drive, moving the card to another PCI slot so
that it will read it again. Deleting and re-entering the dial up
connection.

Any help or suggestions would be most gratefully received.
