I am trying to associate .txt files to an application
called textpad instead of the default notepad. When I
try to click on the "always associate the app with..."
button, it is grayed out. No other app does this. Is
there a way around it? Thanks in advance.

Janet,
Have you tried;
Starting from Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types and scroll the list
to the "txt" entry and change it from there.

Right click on a TXT file and select Properties. Use the Change button found
on these screens to alter the default program.

If you right click the file and choose "Open with" (instead of going into
Properties) / Programs... the Always open with will not be greyed out.
