View Full Version : Processes work in safe mode but not normal mode

OK, here is the prob. It all started with IE6. It worked,
and then stopped. So, I tried to repair it, but it didnt
work. I then tried many other things. Finally got it to
work in safe mode, but not normal mode. Everything else
worked fine. Then my friend tried downloading some hacking
tools on my comp and i got some viruses. I deleted them and
things appeared fine. Now however, things arent working.
Many processes, such as messengers and things, wont work.
My web cam stopped working, but still most importantly, IE6
wont work except in safe mode. I now get dwwin.exe opening
up all the time, and some other processes. My profile got
messed up, so i reseted all the processes according to the
defaults. Any ideas???

dwwin is part of the error reporting part of XP. It means that the system
is rebooting before the error is being captured.
I would suggest starting here and run every one of them and then post back.

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by

I ran that one as you suggested, adn tried the tweaks, but
it still doesnt work. There are many processes that still
only work in safe mode. I am tired of getting the dwwin.exe
instead of the popup. It is getting really aggrevating. Any
other idaes? I dont want to have to do any major
reinstalling or reformatting. I just dont understand how
they all work in safe mode but not normal mode.

Ok, what are you calling it worked but didn't work and only works in safe
mode for IE? Be exact.
Try setting your Services back to default in the meantime:

Last shot at this: Have you checked this setting:
IE/Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings. Uncheck Use a proxy
server.....
