HELP HELP. P-L-E-A-S-E!
I bought my new laptop 5 weeks ago and the OS is Windows
XP Home Edition. I loaded MSOffice 2000 professional. All
works well except Access 2000. Access works but many error
screens pop up and it hangs when asked to retrieve a
record in my database using combo boxes. Also Event
Procedures using the wizards do no work.

I am a medical professional and writing a database for my
work. Everything goes great at work using Windows 2000
professional but not on my computer. I have tried loading
Windows 2000 but my screen changes to VGA from SVGA and
cannot change it. I have tried partitioning my hard drive
(20) Gig, but it makes the XP OS config Sys file corrupt.
I have now reloaded XP as factory settings. I bought the
laptop so I could continue designing my databases at home
but it just will not work without glitches.

IF I UPGRADE TO XP PROFESSIONAL WOULD IT RESOLVE MY
PROBLEMS? I have loaded (complete packages) Office 2000
professional, then Office XP Professional version 2002 all
to no avail. I am so desperate to get my work done I would
value any tips or clues. Alas as a ships medical officer I
am at sea for 4 week durations and cannot consult anyone
except through this media.
Very many thanks in advance.

Kind regards, Barry.

The Home or Professional versions of Windows XP are the same
as to the function of software loaded locally. Windows XP
Pro has more extensive user control, server functions and
domain logon.
I would suggest that you may need to reinstall or repair
your Office installation to be sure that you have properly
install all modules.
If you are using the Outlook Express newsreader, look for
the Access newsgroup on msnews.microsoft.com for specific
help on your issue.
You need to tell what errors you are getting. I'm not sure,
but there could be issues with opening a database created
with different versions of Access unless you have updated
all file formats to read latest procedures.

Greetings --

Actually, in my experience to date, Office 2K, and Access 2K in
particular, performs flawlessly on WinXP Home. I've used it to
develop inventory and help desk applications, without a problem.
What, specifically, have you done to troubleshoot your problems? (The
few things you mentioned are almost completely irrelevant to the types
of errors you've described.) Have you removed and reinstalled Office?
Have you applied all of the necessary service releases and patches to
Office?
