I don't want to see the "A network cable has been
unplugged" sign and icon in the notification area of the
taskbar so I have checked the "always hide icon" in the
taskbar properties area but it still pops up when starting
up etc. Can anyone please tell me how I can eradicate this
message & icon forever ?

I am having the same problem and can not find a solution.

I have tried the 2 Knowledge Base Artilces mentioned without success. I do
not have a MN-100 or MN-500 base station and I can not see any settings for
a MN130 adapter.

The LAN card in my system does not have the power managment enabled. It
should not be powering on and off to cause the problelm.

I am connected through a Linksys Router and other computers connected to the
router do not have this issue.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
