I have asked this question before - but you never know
someone may have the answer. When I go into Outlook
express I used to be prompted for my password, which I
set up some months ago. Recently this has stopped I can
go right in without a password. I have done the obvious
checks (recommended by an answer in usergroup) by going
to identities and unchecking, rechecking the password box
and even trying to change the password, to no avail. any
suggestions please?

Hi Christine,

Is this the Password for your Outlook Express Identity? If so, and if
Outlook Express 6 is your default mail client (no other e-mail clients
installed) it may be by design.

The MS KB article below describes the situation in technical terms.

Christine,

Did some testing and I confirmed my earlier suspicions.
If you click on File in OE6, you'll notice that right above "Exit"
is "Exit and Logoff Identity", but it's grayed out. What I
found is, if you create a second identity, this option is
enabled. Thereafter, using this option to exit OE will
force the "Select Identity" prompt the next time you start
OE, and if you have a password set, you must use it.

You don't have to create a second account, just the
identity. (File/Identities/Add New Identity)

Not a perfect solution, but it will allow you to use
your password.
