I removed programs from my computer but they were not
eliminated from the start-up tab of the system
configuration utility (start/run/msconfig/startup). This
requires that I run a selective start-up. Does anyone
know of a way to eliminate the items from my system
configuration utility start up tab?

You'll need to go into the registry and remove them. Did you remove the
applications by deleting the directories? If so, that's a big no no. You
should always go through add/remove programs from the control panel. That
way things like what you're seeing will be removed automatically during the
uninstall process. If you did go through add/remove, then the programs
uninstall was poorly written (not your fault).

You'll need to go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run to remove
them manually. Of course if you're in a selective start-up, you'll need to
put that back first so the registry keys are move back there or find the
disabled run key and delete them from there.
