upgrading xp home to pro & to new HD

I need to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro and I am also
running out of space on existing HD and wish to upgrade it.
Can I clone the old hard drive to the new then upgrade to
XP Pro without a problem?

Yes, something like Norton Ghost or DriveImage can do that for you.
