Hi, just a little bit more info would help.
Cable Connection - your connection to the internet?
The DLink is most likely a (Hub or a switch) The two PC
are connected to each other with a cable or is it
wirerless?
The best thing to do is to check with the Laptop manu. It
sounds like all you need is a Nic card for your laptop
but there is also a lot of software and setting to make
and add to the laptop. They would be best to help.
