Hi,
my problem is a very strange one indeed. Even though i
have a floppy drive that is correctly connected to the
system Windows XP insists on not recognizing it... i can
not make the A: drive appear on the My Computer window. I
check device manager and i can't see a floppy drive there
either... how can i fix this?

Also sometimes windows will 'forget' i have a cdrom
drive, let's say i start up the system, the computer will
see the cddrive and i can use it well... but when i try
installing a program from a cd, when it asks for a cd
change it sometimes forgets there's a cdrom drive
connected when i insert the second cd and close the tray.
the Cd-Rom/DVD-rom section in the Device manager is
removed entirely and it will not recognize that the
system has a cdrom drive.

i try to update drivers but it won't help... what must i
do? my pc has an LG 52max cdrom drive, and is Running
Winxp Pro with all the updates installed. please help me
out!

Hi, Emir.

For your "missing" floppy drive, the most obvious question is whether it has
been enabled in your computer's BIOS. Related questions: Does the light on
the drive flash as you are booting up? Did the floppy ever work in this
computer? In an earlier Win9x/ME configuration, perhaps?

As to the CD-ROM, I wonder if you need to permanently assign a drive letter
using Disk Management. WinXP has its own algorithm for assigning drive
letters, but these can get confused by just about any change in
configuration, even a temporary one, such as plugging or unplugging a USB
drive. Use Disk Management to assign a drive letter further away in the
alphabet from C:, D:, etc., typically used for hard drives. My system uses
V: for my DVD drive and W: for my CD-RW. Disk Management does many jobs,
including some that we used to do with Device Manager or the old DOS
programs FDISK and Format.exe.

What kind of interface does your CD-ROM use? IDE? SCSI? USB?
