During the setup of a new system I have experienced an
obstacle that I cannot solve while attempting to install
the OS. In the process of installing the gigaraid driver
supplied by the manufacturer during the OS installation,
a WinXP error message occurred:

"File\WIN2K_XP\INTERAID.SYS caused an unexpected error
(18) @ line 2108 in D:\XPCLIENT\BASE\BOOT\SETUP\OEMDISK.
C.".

I have contacted Microsoft and they are unable to assist.

Current information provided: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro
MB, AMD 2600 Socket A, 2-256 DDR Memory, 2-WD 160GB HD,
GigaRAID Bios V1.36 F/W Ver 02093030 is recognized in
array 0.

What need to be done to pass this point and continue with
the OS setup???? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, Ed.

See the thread started just a few minutes before yours (7/26/03 10:30am CST)
by Rob.

As explained at more length there, using those big drives/controllers as
secondary drives is usually just a matter of using Device Manager to install
the proper drivers. Using them as the boot device, though, is a major
headache! Especially if you are integrating them into an existing system
already full of apps and data. :>(

Since you are just now setting up a new system, perhaps all you need to do
is to be sure you have the drivers on a floppy. Then boot from the WinXP
CD-ROM, press F6 when invited, and wait for Setup's instructions on how to
use the floppy to install the drivers.

Good luck - and please let us know what you learn. In a newsgroup, we all
learn from each other.
