reinstalling winxp would require you to re-activate
winxp. just as you did the first time, the process should
be uneventful. your old product id should still be valid.
if it won't the worst that could happen is you calling
microsoft (which i think is toll free) and giving them a
set of numbers, and the operator should give you back a 50
character series of numbers.

microsoft does not require registration of its products.
this process is where you give your name and other
personally identifiable information. this is just an
option of a user.

actually, about every six months, i erase my whold hard
disk and reinstall winxp, and all along, there was never a
problem as regards activation. i hope this goes the same
with you.
