Windows messenger is very slow, sometimes takes ages to log in, notification area icon stops moving, when it does log in messenger freezes all the time making it impossible to conduct a conversation. If I kill it and re-start it it takes up space in the ta

What could be wrong? I have all available patches and updates for windows, it was working fine until a few weeks ago. Haven't installed any new software in several months.
