My Windows XP does not have a word documents program
installed. What word document is best for writting
documents and how do I go about downloading it.

Microsoft's Word application, but it's not free.
Windows has WordPad, which can create simple-formatted documents.

A decent alternative to MS Word is the Writer program that is part of Open
Office. This is a large download but well worth it considering it is free
http://www.openoffice.org/product/ You can set the preferences to open and
save as MS Word Docs

Which is best is a matter of opinion. Microsoft Word is the most
popular, so that's likely to be the most common answer you'll
get. My personal opinion is that WordPerfect is the best.

You don't. You buy it.

Actually my view is that it was Novell who did the most damage.
But yes, I still think it's the best word processor available.

Hi, Rachel.
Some computers - like my uncle's new Dell - are sold with software "bundles"
included in the price of the hardware. Since he got WinXP Home Edition and
Microsoft's Works Suite with his Dell, he thinks all computer come that way,
but they don't. The Works Suite includes Microsoft Word. If he had not
received Word that way, he would have had to buy it.
What brand of computer did you get? Which version of WinXP? What software
was bundled with it?
As the others have said, if you did not get a word processing program with
your computer, then you will have to buy one - or download one of the
several freeware word processors.

Greetings --
I think Novell intervened only because they wanted to
email/collaboration portion of the WordPerfect Office Suite, now known
as GroupWise. The key GroupWise files are still named wpo*.*

I read this morning that Vector is about to acquire Corel. That
will make the fourth company to own WordPerfect within just a few
years.
