I purchased a computer from HD Northwest and purchased
WinXP Home edition with it for my daughter. Her system
was corrupted and I had to rebuild the box, however she
lost the product key that came with the disc. Can I get
another product key?
I tried to email MS for support, but you need the product
key to initiate the email.

The product key should be located on one of the XP stickers on your
machine's CPU unit.

No, you're wrong. That's the price of a second licence - a replacement key
will cost about £10. But, if the licence was OEM, then he (or his daughter)
should contact the vendor. MS doesn't support OEM licences.

installation) is stored somewhere on the CD packaging on a bright
orange sticker that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM
(factory installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC
manufacturer affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom
of a laptop.
To recover a lost Product Key:
If your system still runs, you should be able to use AIDA32
Enterprise from http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php or ViewKeyXP from
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm to find the Product Key.
(If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since
reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably of the drive
image used at the factory and not _your_ specific Product Key;
therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be --
used for a re-installation.)
If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
OS; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the
Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.

Most likely you have an OEM license for the machine, the key should be
either in the original packaging that came with the machine or on the
machine itself. Some OEMs will keep a listing of keys sent for a short
period of time and they may be able to help you. In the event that you have
a retail key, you could call our customer service people for assistance,
they can tell you what you would need to provide.
