I have just upgraded my computer from XP Home to XP
Professionhave beeal.
I keep getting the 'blue screen of death' indicating that
the file:
kmixer.sys
is causing my Toshiba Satellite laptop to go critical
mass.
All upgrades have been uploaded and installed, yet the
problem persists..
Has anyone encountered this and found a fix?
Thanks

Hi, James.

After upgrading, have you been to Windows Update to be sure you have all the
Service Packs and other fixes installed?

Have you run the System File Checker? At the Run prompt, type: sfc
/scannow. SFC will compare each WinXP operating system file with the "known
good" copy held in the on-disk cache and replace any missing or damaged
ones. Have your WinXP Pro CD-ROM handy; SFC will probably want to see it.

For comparison, my WinXP Pro includes \WinNT\system32\drivers\kmixer.sys;
it's 159,360 bytes, dated 03:32 AM, 8/29/02. There are identical copies in
\WinNT\ServicePackFiles\i386 and \WinNT\system32\dllcache. Your boot folder
may be \Windows, rather than \WinNT, but the rest of the paths should be the
same.

Any chance antivirus was running when you applied service pack and updates?
Did this happen right after the upgrade or did it happen after a SP/update
install?
