We are currently upgrading our PC's from NT4 Workstation
to XP professional. We've noticed the standard date format
has changed from dd/mm/yy to dd/mm/yyyy. Is there a solid
technical reason why?

Well I guess this steams back from the millenium bug in which most programs
only use the two digit date format and presented a real headache for
programmers. I would have assumed that Microsoft is standardising its
software across the platforms to incorporate.
In addition the file system uses this date field and many big corporations
may have archived documentation dating back to 1901. If the 2 digit format
was used, you could not identify quickly if the document was created in 1901
(01) or 2001 (01).
Hope this clarifies matters.
Regards
Paul.
