I have a very succesful XP install on my Dell Dimension
XPS R450, that is to say with the exception of DVD video
playback :-(

The problem is that when attempting to play a DVD the
player (Media Player plus other 3rd party players)start
up okay but the video screen remains black, no DVD sound,
no DVD title data. The drive sounds like it's spinning
up - but as I say no video display (I've tried all
resloutions from 800 x 600 to 1280 x 1024).

The DVD player plays audio CD's and the diagnostic tools
indicate all is well with the player, decoder and video
cards, as does Device Manager. On another hardisk I have
w98 and, when this disk is installed, all DVD functions
operate (on resolutions 800 x 600 to 1024 x 768), but I
really want to use XP !

I'm using Cinemaster 1.2 Hardware Decoder and the STB
nVidea TNT video card - all untouched since supplied by
Dell as a standard build.

As this was a standard Dell build I'm sure there must be
others out there who have made the move to XP with the
same/similar hardware build - I'd be very interested to
hear from those who have had similar problems or who may
have suggestions/fix's.

Thanks and regards

John

You need something like WinDVD
or PowerDVD John. Install something
like one of these, then it should work.

XP doesnt havent built-in DVD
codecs. It needs a 3rd party program.
