View Full Version : Searching for scanner

During normal boot up to XP Home Edition, about one time in four,
I find it is 100% busy, and bogged down for maybe a minute or
more while it 'searches for the scanner'. The scanner was installed
six months ago, it's never been uninstalled, the icon for it is on the
desktop, and independent of whether the scanner has been used
recently, it sometimes goes looking for it anyway.
Can somebody explain to me why this is not a CONSISTENT
thing, either looking every time, or never looking?
Thank you.

If the power is off the scanner the USB has to search for it. If power is on
it finds the scanner during normal bootup so you don't see the searching.

Sorry, that doesn't answer my question. Conditions are the same
at all times, that is, there is no difference between boot-ups, yet
sometimes it goes searching and delaying things, while at
other times it doesn't. Whatever 'power off' and 'power on'
mean, they're always the same but performance is not. That's why
I asked.
