Server can't be found!

As anyone had a problem with XP Pro, that when you connect to the
internet via DSL you connect and all is well. after about 5 min you
get a message "can't find server or dns error"? This seems to have
started after doing a Windows Up date.I have checked for viruses,ran
spybot and adaware. The system will not let me do a SYSTEM RESTORE
back to an earler date either. Any ideas out there?

Have a static or dynamic IP?
Did you check your DNS settings in the Network control panel for your
network?

System is set up for DHCP, i tried changing the DNS setting from
automatic to using prefered and alternate, made no difference. any
other ideas?
