CD-ROM drive wont record

I have an ATAPI 4x4x32 CD drive installed that has been
working fine until recently. I don't think I have done
any system changes that should affect it recently but it
has stopped recording though it will read drives. When I
insert a CD-R it sees it as full though if I check in
another system it is empty, and they are new out of the
box CD's. I've tried several. Any suggestions?

Your recording laser has gone belly up. Time to buy a new drive. 4x is
slow anyway.
I haven't recorded at 4x on CD-R in years
