You don't that is done by the Microsoft Server people; however, if you do

Please rethink your posting. NG messages can be deleted - JJ will soon =
be along to help with this problem - all new XP MVPs are 'know-it-alls'.

You don't, they are on the newsgroup server, not on your PC. You can set up
a rule to not download postings older than xx days... (Tools, Message Rules,
News if you are using Outlook Express). If you are using a broadband
connection, you might also want to right click on the Syncronization
Settings and use the Headers Only selection.
See: www.tomsterdam.com for more Outlook Express tips.

Karen F,
Since you are using Outlook Express the following will answer your question;
To create a rule for newsgroup messages
1.. On the Tools menu, point to Message Rules, and then click News.
2.. On the News Rules tab, click New.
3.. Select the conditions for your rule by selecting the desired check boxes in the Conditions section. (You must select at least one condition.)
You can specify multiple conditions for a single rule by clicking more than one check box. Click the and hyperlink in the Rule Description section to specify whether all of the rule conditions must be met before the specified action occurs (and) or whether at least one must be met (or).
4.. Select the actions for your rule by selecting the desired check boxes in the Actions section. (You must select at least one action.)
5.. Click the underlined hyperlinks in the Rule Description section to specify the conditions or actions for your rule.
You can click contains people or contains specific words in the Rule Description section to specify the people or words you'd like Outlook Express to look for in messages. If you enter multiple people or multiple words per condition, use the Options button in the Select People or Type Specific Words dialog boxes to further customize the condition.
6.. In the Name of the rule box, select the default name, type a new name for your rule, and then click OK.
a.. You can create a new rule by selecting an existing one on the News Rules tab and clicking Copy. This is helpful when the new rule you want to create is similar to an existing one.
b.. You can create a rule from a message by selecting a news message in the main window and then on the Message menu clicking Create Rule from Message. This helps by automatically filling in the name of the sender on the From line; no other information from the message, however, is entered into the rule.

Cari, the Q was 'How do I delete old posts from a newsgroup'. =
Personally I use 'Find' and select a date. Perhaps there is a different =
regime for MVPs?

You can delete the copy on your PC, but unless you are the Administrator on
the newsgroup server, you cannot delete them on the server.
It's a lot quicker to set up a rule. It also gets rid of those annoying
future posters.

Do you usually post descriptions of yourself? By the way, that was an =
interesting rationalisation, how one can walk, talk, and smell like =
something, by simply reading text!

As others have mentioned, the messages on the newsgroup server are probably
not what you're concerned about. The copies that download to your PC are
cached in the Outlook Express message store. Check out Tools> Options>
Maintenance> CleanUp Now. There's many possible combinations to try with the
settings you'll find here. Experiment and find that works best for your
needs.
Personally, I remove the message bodies and leave the headers. This gets rid
of the bulk of what's stored and keeps the DBX files a reasonable size.
Compact when "working offline" and disable automatic background compacting
guards against corruption of the DBX files.
By deleting the messages only, It also keeps track of what messages have
been read so that they don't need to be downloaded again or bypassed using
message rules. Using the View options, I have OE set to show unread messages
only. If I ever want to go back and read a complete thread (if it's still
available), I can show all messages and click on the header that is still
stored.
