I just installed a secondary drive on my MICRON PC (PIII
800, 384MB RAM). I have been trying a clean install of XP
PRO on the secondary drive (slave), keeping ME installed,
but after being prompted during the first reboot of the
installation, you are prompted between a choice of XP Pro
or ME. If you choose to continue to install XP, the
computer hangs with error saying "missing or corrupt
HAL.DLL. Please re-install this file". However, I have
tried reinstalling several times and continue to receive
the error. I have even tried copying HAL.DLL from a
differnet computer and installing it here, but I continue
to receive error.
What exactly does HAL.DLL do, and can hardware
incompatability (such as a motherboard or video card)
cause this error? Thanks for your help.
