View Full Version : Saving DVHS data

I have a few laserdiscs that will probably never be
released on DVD. I thought it might be useful to play
them on my computer from a file on my hard drive. It was
simple enough to create a DVHS copy and those play fine
on my VCR. Unfortunately when I connect the DVHS VCR to
the PC and play the files, I only get the video. I have
no problems recording HDTV and storing that on my PC.

I have tried creating some filters with GraphEdit but
that does not seem to work. It is frustrating because the
program is simple to use. Does anyone have an example of
a filter that works for this kind of project?

How is the DVHS connecting to the PC? Do you have Line In on the Audio
Control Panel set to "Mute" by accident?

The only connection is Firewire. This transfers the
entire ATSC data stream. I have no problems saving HDTV
broadcasts that were recorded by my PC's HDTV tuner. The
audio plays back fine over Firewire when I connect it to
my TV.

All data is transferred via Firewire, so there is no
separate audio input. I believe the problem must be
related to the audio being recorded from audio out on the
laserdisc player. The tape does play fine on the DVHS VCR
attached to my TV. I have no problems transferring HDTV
programming back and forth from the PC.
