I have a used Dell Inspiron 2500 with WinXP on it that I picked up
yesterday. When I plug it into my DSL line, it repeatedly connects then
disconnects. I think it might have been connected to cable internet, but I
don't know for sure. I have gone into the network settings and they are all
the same as my other computer, "Obtain IP address automatically", "DHCP
enabled" etc. Does anyone have any ideas what else I should check?
Thanks.

Impossible question to answer with the information you give.

Do you have a router that is set to assign DHCP? And that router is
configured to then connect to the DSL 'modem'?

Are you trying to connect the new XP PC to a DSL modem that will only assign
a single DHCP address... ?

More info needed!

I am trying to connect to a router that is configured to assign DHCP, that
is connected to the DSL modem. The router will assign more than 1 DHCP
address.
I hope this is enough info.
