View Full Version : Incorrect Function Error

I have two CD drives on my computer. One is a normal CD-
ROM and the other is a CD-RW. If I have a CD in the
drive when the computer boots, all behavior is normal.
If I insert a CD while Windows is running the icon
changes to a "CD pointer" and then an "hourglass pointer"
as if the CD is recognized and the autoplay function is
being run, however nothing happens. When I try to access
the drives through "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer"
one of two errors occurs. The regular CD-ROM drive
displays the message "g:\ is not acessible. Incorrect
Function." The CD-RW appears to open a window and work
properly, but there are no visible files.

Similar behavior occurs with my Lexar USB storage
device. If I insert the drive into the USB port, the new
hardware wizard recognizes the device, but when I try to
access the device it gives me the same "incorrect
function" error message.

One interesting featrue is that if I am using audio CDs
in Windows Media Player 9, I can insert the CDs and have
full functionality including copying the tracks to the
hard disk.

By the way I have read Microsoft Knowledge Base Article -
315350 and do not have Easy CD creator.

Recent changes to my system...

I just installed a new processor and Soyo Mainboard with
integrated sound and video, so I have a lot of new
drivers, although I think I have the most recent versions.

I recently reinstalled Windows Media Player 9 after
receiveing an error message with the previous
installation. I can not recall what the message was.

I tried to reinstall Windows XP to fix the problem, but
it had no effect.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.
