please help with hard disk

Hi i need help my friend has added his old hardisk to new
computer there is loads of stuff he needs on it and was
going to copy it over now it says format disk when he
tries to get into it and obviously doesnt want to do this
please any ideas to how to get into old hardisk.

If he/she still has the old computer first thing to do is to put the
HDD back and see if the files are still accessible. If so then the
problem is not in the HDD but in incompatability with the new
configuration.
