i just formatted my 60GB master drive last night as NTFS
and installed winxp pro. before i did that i backed all
the needed data onto my 40GB slave drive.

once i got into windows i tried to retrieve the data but
it says access to the slave drive is denied. when i check
the drive's properties, it says the file system is now
RAW.

does anyone know what could have happened? i have no
idea. i didn't do anything to the slave drive. when i use
the diskmgmt.msc utility, it says the slave drive is in
NTFS, but right-click --> properties once again says RAW.

it's baffled me aswell as friends of mine who study, work
and run IT businesses.

This happens more frequently than it should and I have never seen an
explanation as to why it happens.

I have 4 drives spread out over 10 partitions. One day about 1 1/2 years ago
I went to turn off the computer. When I clicked on the "Turn Off" button,
the computer shut down within an eye blink. There is normally a 10 second or
so shutdown sequence. Knowing that something was wrong, I started back up,
or tried to. No go. I booted up with Partition Magic floppies and found that
all partitions, save one, were showing as RAW!

I was able to reclaim my files, after much work, but would NOT want to go
through the experience again.
