Is Windows Messenger compatible with other Instant Messengers, i.e., AOL,
Yahoo, MSN, Trillian, Proteus, etc?

IOW - can one communicate with the other?

No, in terms of public networks, Windows Messenger operates on the .NET Messenger network
only (so the only thing it's compatible with are other clients on the .NET Messenger network,
like MSN Messenger or Trillian).
