when rediling internet server, the dial-up connection
presents me with a word totaly different of the one I ask
to be saved.
I am told I have to reinstall windows on a clean disk.
Can I save this enormous time consuming work as well the
expense of paying for programes previously installed from
direct downloads?

If you're referring to the length of the password, then there is nothing
wrong. The number of 'blobs' shown is always the same (16 I think)
regardless of the actual length of your password. This is a security
feature, designed to make it that much harder for anyone standing behind you
to guess your password.

Have you tried just hitting the connect/ok/dial button? (Can't remember what
it's called - don't use dial-up.)
Bet it connects just fine.
