I have upgraded this computer to Windows XP Home, and on boot up a message
appears in the little bar at the lower right, (I have forgotten its name),
stating that some driver is not suited for XP, or some such message, and it
has not loaded. There is some pointing to Roxio, but I used the Add/Remove
for Roxio and removed the Roxio CD urning software, it did not change, the
message still arrived. It also stated that possibly, it could be Windows
Media Player. However, I cannot find the driver to remove. Any help
appreciated.

Hi Joel
A driver error message would relate to a hardware device and not =
software. Can you recall the exact error message? If you think it may =
be WMP, try Windows Update - if have the latest version of that - 9.0 - =
you would perhaps have to update/patch your Roxio software through their =
web site.

Thanks, I have done both. Roxio, sent a long dissertation about the
potential problem, and I removed and reloaded the Version 6.0 and have also
reloaded the Windows Media Player and the message still arrives. It goes
away upon a click. It is not a BIG problem, just annoying. I have tried to
capture the message to be able to paste, but it just dissapears upon any
touch, will have to manualy write it down and then post. Will do that soon.
Keep watch, maybe you can help fix.

Hi Joel
The exact error message from WMP would perhaps help. Have you checked =
your Event Log? Start>Run - then type in "eventvwr.msc" - without the =
quotes. Are there are references to WMP in there? The event number may =
help.

This it the exact message:
Device or Application Disabled: (This in BOLD letters, heading)
CD Recording software will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows
has prevented these drivers from loading. Click for Details.
It then puts up a message to contact Roxio.
I have and they sent a long disseration, the crux of the thing was to
uninstall and reinstall, which I have and it still appears. So, if no fix I
will just live with it.

Hi Joel
Make sure that you have deleted your CD writing software. Boot into =
Safe Mode, then delete all references to your CD writer - to do this:
Reboot, then press F8 before Windows loads. You will then see a screen =
full of options - select Safe Mode. After your PC is in Safe Mode - =
Control Panel>System - Hardware tab>Device Manager. Click on the + next =
to CD drives and then right click on your CD writer drive and select =
'Uninstall'. Reboot to 'normal' mode - Windows should redetect your CD =
writer drive and install the drivers for it.=20
You can then reinstall your CD writing s'ware.
