I can read audio, data and DVD disks with my NEC ND 1100A
CD but I cannot burn CDs. Nothing works, not even XP. I
have applied the latest updates and tried using a number
of software packages to burn CDs. All fail. I don't
believe there is a mechanical problem with the drive
(although I'm still investigating). Are there any issues
with XP and hot fixes etc.? Thanks.

My experience has been a hardware malfunction when I can read but not burn.
