How do you do the lowlevel format, what used to be fdisk on older
systems? I have the disk in, the system can see it but XP can't.

Fdisk and low level format are very different things. Delpart is the
partitioning tool that XP uses.

Have you tried using Disk Management to detect and prepare the new drive? A
few ways to get to this tool. One of them: Right click My Computer and
select Manage. The default management console appears and one of the
included administrator tools is Disk Management.
