Video card or Computer Problem, Need help

think it is with my video card

my problem is when i am doing something on my computer,
such as watching a movie clip or doing more than to
things, my screen blacks out for a second and then comes
back but the programs are frozen, and the cursor is
messed up, and if there is volume from the clip it
repeats itself and the tone it froze at. it keeps on
freezing and every time it happens i reboot it, one time
the system restarted and said my computer just recovered
from a serious problem caused by a invaternal loop caused
by my n4 display. Also when the computer reboots and it
is in DOS mode on the screen, there are missing letters
and letter blocks that are different colors.

i am not sure what to do is my video card wacking out and
can i get a new driver. or do i need to get a new video
card. my pc says it is working properly. or could it be
something else.

please help i am going back to school and i need my pc.
