Silly question probably BUT can you share a dvd drive over
an xp network?
I have tried but it doesn't recognise it as a dvd.

Yes, I have done it and it works fine. Make sure you have a dvd in the
drive and any necessary dvd reading software on the machine you are using.

I do have a dvd in the drive and have installed my copy of
powerDVD on the networked pc but it will not let me select
the mapped drive as a source. I have tried opening the dvd
as a 'media file' in the program but it stops responding.
