Setting up a network.

I have a 3com HomeConnect

One machine is XP, the other 98SE.

BOTH machines find their own card. NEITHER machine can find the other.

ALL indications are that everything is set up properly, but there is NO
network.

Any help will be truly appreciated.

Thanks
JH

On the XP machine turn on NETBios over TCP/IP on the Wins configuration tab
of TCP/IP.
On the XP machine turn off the built in firewall if it's on as it can't be
configured to add the IP of the other machine to a trusted list.
Both machines need to have the same workgroup name.
Both machines need to have file and printer sharing turned on and configured
properly.
The machines need to be set up to logon to a network. Some people set up
Win98SE to bypass the logon and the machine can't browse a network if it's
set that way. You can use TweakUI to auto logon but you can't bypass the
logon by pressing cancel or esc and never entering a password.
The machines need to be connected properly as per the network kit you
purchased.
