Comm2

Hi, can anyone suggest a way to enable Comm2 as the
default port in XP. I have tried BIOS setting changes and
adding a second port using Add Hardware, by default it
chooses Comm3. This gives me Comm 1 and Comm 3, I would
like just one comm 2 on the system.an

How many physical com ports do you have? If you have 2, you can try
disabling com1 in the bios and see what happens. I'm guessing that you only
have one, though, so it might take a bit of fiddling.

You can try changing addresses in the bios, but each time, you'd need to
remove the com port in Windows, then change the bios address and let Windows
redetect.

By the way, what do you have plugged in to the port that requires com2? It
might just be easier to find out if that device will accept com1.

Hi Peter,

Delete the COM3 in the Device Manager.

Boot into the BIOS and configure the COM2 settings as the following:

IRQ: 3
I/O: 02F8-02FF
