View Full Version : Taskbar doesn't resize when icon-size has been changed

Hi,

A while ago I posted to this newsgroup (apr 12 - see=20
below), with an issue where my taskbar resizing wouldn't=20
be saved. I had a couple of responses, unfortunately none=20
of them worked. I've done some more investigating, and=20
think i have found the problem:

I have set my icon size down a couple of notches (this=20
setting controls the size of quicklaunch, taskbar, system=20
tray and window control (close, maximise, minimise}=20
icons). Since these icons have gotten smaller, so too has=20
my taskbar. I have my taskbar set at double size, but as=20
soon as i log back in, it is always set back to single. =20
However, if i set it to triple size, and log back in, it=20
is set to double - but when i NEXT login, it is back to=20
single again.

I think windows is saving the taskbar height as a number=20
of pixels, and when it loads that number when i next log=20
back in, it uses it _before_ applying my customised icon=20
size - it therefore rounds to the nearest multilpe of the=20
icon size, which sets it to single height, and then=20
applies my icon size customisation...

Can anyone think of a good workaround for this? My best=20
idea is to edit the registry and change the taskbar=20
height, and then revoke my privileges on that key, so i=20
can't change it again.
Anyone know where in the registry this setting is?

Thanks,

Gareth

Right click on desktop --> properties
Go to appearance tab, click 'advanced'
In 'Item' drop down box, choose 'caption Buttons'
Adjust to your pleasure. Mine is 16
It says c'aption buttons, and on the tab page, only=20
appears to change the close, minimise, maximise etc=20
buttons, but in reality it also changes quicklaunch,=20
taskbar etc aswell. Oh - and it changes the container=20
size too - that is, both the title bar and taskbar will=20
change size to accomodate whatever size icon you specify=20
here.
