View Full Version : Replace W2K with XP Pro
I have a Pent2 PC with two physical (separate) hard
disks. The first disk (C) is primary and has 4.3MB
capacity and the Win2K OS. The 2nd disk (F) has 60MB
capacity of which 8MB is data I wish to keep. Note that D
and E are ZIP and CD drives. I would like to replace the
2K OS on C with XP. I have Partition Magic 8, but that
only shows how to add a 2nd OS. Any advice would be
appreciated. .................Thanks ...DBG

Hello,
I presume that when you mentioned drive size that you meant gigabytes
(roughly one billion bytes or GB) instead of megabytes (roughly one million
bytes or MB).
This page describes XP Pro system requirements:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/sysreqs.asp
PC Pitstop also has a Windows XP readiness test at:

You say you want to remove Windows 2000 and install XP in it's place. You
can either run an upgrade or you can perform a clean install. To upgrade
take a look here http://www.aumha.org/a/xpupgrad.htm To clean install look
here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm
In either case you will simply install XP to your C drive.

| I installed Windows xp pro over xp home. After installing xp pro, my
computer stated that several files didn't load. Now each time I boot up, my
computer asks for the xp pro cd rom, but doesn't complete the install.
|
| How can I stop the computer from asking for the xp pro cd rom and go back
to using xp home? I tried disconnecting the cd drive, but the xp pro
information is on the hard drive. This keeps windows from displaying.

| Thanks,
| Mac
