I have a new Laptop running XP. It has a IEEE 1394 as well
as 2 USB ports factory. I would like to convert some VCR
video to DVD as well as put on web site. Microsoft
mentions at this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/moviemaker/top10.asp
"Import Video From Your VCR"
"With an inexpensive adapter, Windows Movie Maker 2 lets
you use all the footage. "
Is the Adapter needed because I have Analog?. and if so,
can anyone direct me as to what I would need to buy if any
hardware or cabels.
Thank You
Jeff

To capture the "analog" VCR tapes to the computer to be able to place them
on the web, you need to purchase some type of capture device. You can't
just plug in a VCR to a computer and capture the data. If you had a digital
video camera, that video could be imported directly into the computer via
USB (low resolution) or IEEE1394 (high resolution).
I recommend a capture device that will plug into the IEEE1394 port and here
is one at this site.

To the right of the "key features" box is a comparison with other brands
devices. You can buy this one doing a web search for under $170.00
They also sell one that will attach to the USB ports.

Good luck and happy capturing.
