View Full Version : Power Options - auto standby

I want to set my computer to auto standby after 10
minutes. The problem is that the computer will only
recognize auto standby after 1 minute. If I choose the
option of 2,3, 5, 10, 15, 20 etc., the computer will not
go to standby (the monitor will shut off b/c I have
monitor shut down at 10 minutes, hard drives at 15
although the hard drive doesn't ever shut down
automatically). Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I am guessing you are changing these settings from your bios.
Try using the power options in your control panel in conjunction with your
bios settings.
Also check that any hardware such as a webcam or tiny mouse movments are not
affecting the timeout.

I have been using the power options in the control panel
and can only get a response if I set it to 1 minute
standby- while I have heard of the term BIOS, I must admit
that I don't know anything about changing them. I have
checked that no small mouse movement is interfering - any
other thoughts (or perhaps what should I do with the
BIOS?).

Check other timing situations. I.E. Are you checking for mail every X
minutes? Screensaver timing? Etc..
