Sony DVD burner does not multisession...Any Ideas?

I recently purchased a Sony DRU-510A DVD-RW and I have a
problem;

I like to backup my games to disc using a Alcohol 120%.
When burning I choose an option 'Do not close current
session' so i can add game updates/patches etc to the
disc later (leaving the session open)
However, when I try to add data to the disc it does not
recognize the media as being writable.

I have had no problems with my LG CD-RW with regards to
the aforementioned error and was wondering if anybody
knew of this problem and if it could be fixed with an
update also I cannot use XP's built in burning software ,
the recording properties do not exist to enable it's use
in the DVD-R's properties tab within 'My Computer'
