is printer available from batch file

Good afternoon,

I want to automate printing a report each morning using a
cmd batch file run from Windows XP Task Scheduler.

Is ther away to test if the printer is available from the
batch file before printing? I dont want the batch to
hang if the printer is shut off by mistake.
